 The name glass leather does not come from its uniform, glossy sheen, but from the process used to make it: tanning adult cowhide with chrome, then attaching it to glass or enameled iron plates and drying it.
 The surface is then scraped and given a glossy finish using synthetic paint, resulting in a smooth, uniform surface. The paint makes the surface highly water-repellent, making it resistant to water and requiring no special care.
